October 19, 1987 “Black Monday” – The DJIA Loses 22.6% of its Value in One Day

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is an index of 30 blue-chip US stocks that is used as a barometer of how the overall market is doing.   On this “black Monday” as it came to be known, a combination of factors came together to see the 2nd biggest sell-off in the history of the stock market in America.
