October 5, 1947 President Truman Gives the First TV Address to the Nation

He asked that Americans not eat meat on Tuesdays and poulty on Thursdays to help provide food for starving Europeans still recovering from World War 2.   Corporate interests here at home objected to the interference in their profits.   The NY Times covered it this way.
